I decided to head out for a ride today. It was a last minute decision so I wasted no time in hanging around in case the "the list" trumped my decision. I haven't spent much time on the V-Strom lately and was looking forward to a tarmac ride.
I wanted to ride down toward the valley to see if I could get some great shots. The original plan was to ride to Annapolis Royal and take the #8 across to the South Shore but I didn't leave until 10:30 so I thought that might be pushing it. With the amount of photos that we normally take on our rides, that definitely would be a stretch!
I rode to Kentville on the 101 to get a jump on some exploring down that way. It was a little chilly on the highway but not really enough to justify heated equipment - I say that because I don't own a heated vest nor have heated grips on the Strom :)
I fueled up in Kentville and wanted to ride up New Canaan Road as I've never been up that way before. A car pulled out of English Mountain Road directly in front of me and I had to lock up the brakes to avoid t-boning him. I flipped him the bird and wished crabs upon him and his family.
Back on the #1, I took Lovett Road and headed toward the 221. I knew the #1 would be too busy today with pumpkin pickers and I wanted to explore some roads off the 221. Black Rock Road was freshly paved and I suspected it would take me to the Bay of Fundy. There was gravel on many of the corners so it was sketchy at times.
Near the Bay of Fundy I stopped often photographing anything and everything. I did see "boobs" on this trip again - although these were of the wooden variety. A life size carving of a mermaid - sans tail. Darryl Hannah she wasn't.
In Harbourville, I stopped for a stretch and a walk-about. A hippie dude from Quebec was sat on the rock partaking (allegedly) in a left-handed cigarette. I said Salut and continued on.
I was getting a little peckish at this point and was hoping that Jonny would still be open as this hungry Newfoundlander was dyin' for a feed of FDG. Arriving in Berwick, he was still open! "Large fries, dressing, gravy and a pineapple Crush me son!". Moments later, a gluttonous helping of heaven was on my table. I had a yarn with Jonny and he is thinking of buying a GS650. Hot gravy in one pannier and hot fat in the other - gluttony on the go!
It was getting late so I decided to head back the number 1. It was very slow going and once I arrived in Kentville and decided to pick up the 101 to rid myself of the traffic until the Gaspereau exit.
It was a short (about 320 kms) but great ride today exploring places in the valley. I always enjoying riding down that way and hoping I can get another trip before the season comes to a halt.
